In this time of heightened anxiety, scammers are hoping to trick worried taxpayers into giving over their financial information to receive a tax rebate.

Emails are circulating that claim to be from the Government and ask recipients to enter credit card details and personal information. The emails promise a much needed rebate during this financially difficult time.

Other emails with COVID-19 safety advice contain attachments, which when clicked on, install spyware on to the computer. This allows criminals to record keystrokes and steal security details.

If you are unsure about an email you have received, there is a helpful scam checker on the Citizens Advice Bureau website   https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/scams/check-if-something-might-be-a-scam/

As always, be vigilant, don’t enter personal and financial information into a link from an email and ensure your virus protection is up to date. Stay safe!
