Colin Howe | Partner

Colin joined Hillier Hopkins in 1981 and has been a Partner since 1986. He provides broad commercial and taxation advice to business owners and their businesses.

Colin helps clients maximise the value of their businesses and keep as much as is legally possible in their pockets after paying the taxman his share. He offers a combination of strategic and tax planning advice that is valuable to all businesses.

Colin's skills are particularly useful to business owners thinking about a sale in the short to medium term and to anyone thinking about acquiring a business.

Skills and experience

As well as hand holding his long term clients Colin has guided a number of clients through the sale process (from inception of the idea through to completion of contracts) achieving maximum value at each step of the transaction.

Colin 'saved' the frozen pea in the United Kingdom, assisting a Belgian buyer to acquire a market leading frozen foods company from liquidators.  His team carried out financial due diligence for a UK buyer to acquire a major chain of 10 pin bowling alleys from a US parent in Chapter 11 administration.

What clients say

"Colin has many attributes – I have always found him to be a sound listener, a good technician and always responsive to the cause. That is more than I can say for the large percentage of professionals I deal with in my business capacity." Vic Cole, QVD

“I have known Colin for over 20 years and I wouldn’t have been without him for this time - he has always been extremely responsive and, as well as dealing with routine requests quickly and effectively, he gives very good advice and service relating to highly complex matters.” Malcolm Clark, Xoomworks

Not a lot of people know this

In his youth Colin was an Olympic Triallist for the Swaziland Men's hockey team as a goalkeeper (unsuccessful).  History records show that they went on to let in more than 10 goals in each game. He now sticks to golf where the only damage he can do is to his own handicap.
