IR35 ImplicationsOperating through a limited company can be a very tax efficient vehicle and depending upon the remuneration structure, may avoid National Insurance on your earnings entirely. HMRC have introduced legislation (known as IR35) designed to combat perceived abuse of this. Broadly speaking, IR35 may apply where the main fee earner of the company could be considered to be an employee of the company’s ultimate client, were there no intermediaries involved. This issue will be discussed with you in light of your own personal circumstances. CIS ImplicationsA new subcontractor, i.e. somebody who for the first time starts working in the UK construction industry through a Limited Company, will have to register for the new CIS Scheme. We can assist you with this. You will have 20% tax deducted at source which can be offset against other company tax liabilities. Once your turnover exceeds £30,000 you can apply for payments to be paid gross. ExpensesWe can advise you which expenses can be offset against your income, in order to minimise your tax liabilities. The rules on travel, use of home and motor expenses can be very complex. We will advise you on whether you are claiming everything that you are entitled to. Fee ScheduleWe are aware that there are those that consider themselves ‘long-term’ contractors, and those that are ‘temporary’ contractors, working on multiple short-term contracts. To ensure that we cater for both groups, we offer separate fee structures, allowing you to choose the most appropriate for your circumstances. 1) FLEXIBLE & SHORT TERM For those that are not sure they need long-term services but need a flexible service allowing them to close down the company at any time.
If you would like us to provide a tax return service for you, please let us know. Due to the short-term nature of most contracts using the flexible fee structure, this service is 2) LONG TERM For those that are confident they require a company for at least 12 months.
